We had a great time touring the The Garment District with yesterday’s group of students from University of Wisconsin-Stout. One of the highlights was a visit to the workroom of Custom Fabric Flowers By M & S Schmalberg, where the group learned about the process that goes into the creation of silk flowers:

Did you know that Seek offers special educational tours for children, teens, and young adults?
Past participants in our educational tours have included fashion clubs, Girl Scout troops, church and synagogue groups, summer camps, fashion law and merchandising groups, and fashion design and arts classes at the elementary, middle, high school, college, and graduate levels.
Students from as nearby as Queens, New Jersey, and Connecticut and as far away as Finland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom have enjoyed our Garment District tours! Many of our educational tour guests are “repeat visitors;” teachers who return year after year with new groups of students.
Our educational tour leader, Elizabeth, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and a native New Yorker with 17 years experience in the fashion industry, starting as an intern and working up to senior designer. Her design experience includes working for such classic American fashion houses as Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and Perry Ellis International. In addition to being a fashion designer, she is also a print designer, having created prints for Original Penguin, Mavi, and Sean John Boys.
An introduction to the NYC Garment District, Seek’s educational tours include fabric stores and fashion landmarks, famous design schools, garment and retail industry history, and more. A visit to a manufacturer or wholesaler can often be arranged, for either during or immediately following the tour.
After the tour, enjoy lunch at a group-friendly Garment District restaurant, many of which offer special discounts or menus for our tour guests. We’re also happy to recommend museums and other fashion-related educational activities for those wanting to make a day of it!
Our student participants range in age from elementary through graduate school; all tour content is tailored to fit the ages and interests of the group. A standard educational tour lasts for two hours. A one-hour version can also be designed for very young children (ages 7-10) with short attention spans.
For additional information, pricing, and booking details, please visit our educational tours page. At least one months’ notice is generally recommended for best availability.
See you in the Garment District!
