We had a great time touring the The Garment District with yesterday’s group of students from University of Wisconsin-Stout. One of the highlights was a visit to the workroom of Custom Fabric Flowers By M & S Schmalberg, where the group learned about the process that goes into the creation of silk flowers:

Tuesday’s tour was a special one for our lead tour guide, Elizabeth, as she had the opportunity to lead a group of students from her alma mater, St. Francis Prep, on a tour of the Garment District.
Mr. Biondolillo’s fashion design class had a great time exploring the fabric stores, learning about the history of the garment industry, and visiting Custom Flowers by M&S Schmalberg for a peek inside the manufacturing process!
Seek is pleased to partner with, and promote, the many independent designers and family-owned businesses that make up the New York City garment industry. When possible, we arrange visits to neighborhood showrooms and workspaces to give our private Garment District tour customers an in-depth look at the design and production process. During a recent Garment District tour, our guests had the opportunity to visit the factory of M&S Schmalberg.
Nestled in the heart of the New York City Garment District, M&S Schmalberg is the largest manufacturer of custom silk fabric flower pins in the United States. They are a fourth-generation, family-owned company producing large orders of flowers, as well as one-of-a-kind custom pieces made from a variety of fabrics, leathers, and skins.
M&S Schmalberg flowers are made by hand in their Garment District factory, and have been made via the same process since 1916. During a recent New York Garment District tour, Seek guests had a chance to learn all about this time-honored process, getting a glimpse of their fabric flower production from start to finish:
